Ann has worked for the European Commission for almost twenty years in a range of positions and has headed a number of different teams.
She is currently acting Director for “Skills” in the department for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, where the future of work, jobs and skills is an important issue. She is also in charge of a team dealing with Job Creation, where her work has a big emphasis on promoting inclusive and social entrepreneurship through policy and funding tools. Her previous experience included more than five years heading a team working on the cultural and creative sectors, including the European Capitals of Culture, the EU’s Creative Europe programme, the European Heritage Label, and EU prizes for cultural heritage, contemporary architecture, literature and contemporary music. She has also worked in the education field, on the Erasmus+ programme and led work on education for innovation.
She grew up in London, in an Anglo-Finnish household. She has studied in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Oxford and Paris.
